All Spark File community members must adhere to our Guidelines. They are written in a fun, playful poem, but know that we take them very seriously. They are driven by the following basic principles

  • This is a Space where it is Safe to be Brave - sharing ourselves creatively and authentically requires vulnerability. This kind of creative risk-taking can often be accompanied by discomfort. We encourage all participants to bravely (and safely) build their tolerance for creative risk-taking, as we believe this discomfort is all tolerable.
  • No One is Above Me, No One is Below Me and Haters Have a Special Place To The Left - we are creatives of all kinds working at all levels of experience and expertise. No one is better than or lesser than another. We celebrate the courage and vulnerability required to grow as an artist, no matter your starting point
  • Balanced Conversational Turntaking - we do not allow anyone to take all the air out of the room, we make space for each other
  • Step Forward / Step Back - if you are someone who always jumps in first, we encourage you to step back from time to time to make space, and vice versa. If you are someone who typically sits back, we encourage you to step into the light now and again
  • There are many guiding principles you may read all of them in the Course Guidelines PDF provided below and/or watch fellow sparklers reading the Course Guidelines poem aloud.
